These patented devices for fluid delivery or sample uptake have been developed based on state-of-the-art bio MEMS (MicroElectroMechanical System) technology. The core device is a single-use disposable silicon microchip, with integrated hollow microneedle comparable in size to a human hair and microfluidic chamber. It can puncture skin, biological membranes and thin wall sections. It can draw in a sub-microliter sample fluid reliably into the chamber of the chip automatically by capillary force. By integrating selected chemistries into the microchip, on-board assays can be performed without manual fluid transfer. With a simple system, it can deliver precise volumes of even viscous fluids rapidly. Below are examples of potential applications.

Biomedical - Advanced diagnostics for a wide variety of applications. Example assays include biosensors for glucose, lactate, cholinesterase, alcohol and more.

MEMS - (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) The bulk mechanical properties of silicon are utilized to create integrated silicon microneedle sampling and assay microchips, applying the process technology used to make computer chips.

Instrumentation - A laboratory prototype hand-held one-step sampling and assay instrument to hold and actuate the microchip, read the assay, and output the results.

Intellectual Property - A strong proprietary position protects this microneedle technology.
